For 80 years, Watson's has been making chocolates and creating traditions. It's hard to imagine just how many people have enjoyed something sweet from our candy counters over the decades and now, thanks to our online store, across all 50 states. Every day, we ship dozens of packages, and during the holidays, that number grows into the hundreds.
At our headquarters, answering the phones is something we all do. We can answer questions like how many pieces of sponge candy are in a pound, help plan wedding favors, put together corporate gifts, or track down an order. But our favorite calls are often from our regular customers.
There are so many of them.
They're the people who grew up with Watson's in Kenmore, who remember our chocolates on the Christmas table and in their Easter baskets. Today, they continue those traditions by sending Watson's to friends, neighbors, children, and now even grandchildren.
Over the years, we've become a small part of their stories, too.
One grandmother in New York City has been sending chocolate popcorn to her grandsons in California throughout their college years. We've shipped so many boxes that we now know their graduation dates.
One gentleman in Bel Air, Maryland faithfully orders two pounds of Sponge Candy and two pounds of Chocolate Caramels every month. After all these years, we know his order by heart.
A women downstate orders a 2# All Soft Assortment every month to share with her bookclub.
A friendly gal in NC orders Everyday Minikins by the dozens and splits them amongst the neighbors
A local businessman purchases dozens of boxes of Watson's chocolates to bring to every client meeting because he believes everyone deserves a little chocolate.
And one well-known pop star from New Jersey orders a two-pound box of Sponge Candy every few weeks because his daughter loves finding it in her lunchbox.
And the couple in Texas who orders Coconut Clusters by the 5# box (let's just say they enjoy them instead of having a cigarette ;-)!
These are the stories that remind us we're not just making chocolate, we're helping families celebrate traditions, stay connected across the miles, and create memories that last for generations.
One thing people may not realize is that, after years of hearing the same familiar voices, our customers become more than just names on an order form, they become part of the Watson's family.
When a regular customer hasn't called in a while, we notice. We wonder if they're traveling, if they've moved, or if everything is okay. Sometimes we'll even look for their last order, hoping we simply missed them.
Sadly, every so often, we learn that a cherished customer has passed away.
Recently, we lost one of those special customers, Mr. Constantine.
For years, he brightened our days with his phone calls and his unwavering love of Watson's sponge candy. Like so many of our longtime customers, he wasn't just placing an order, he was continuing a tradition, sharing stories, and reminding us why we love what we do.
We'll miss hearing his voice, and we'll think of him often.
Rest in peace, Mr. Constantine. Thank you for letting us be a small part of your life, and for allowing us to be part of your family's traditions for so many years.
