The chocolate confection business is significantly holiday driven. Christmas flows right into Valentines Day and sometimes flops right on top of Easter. Finding our way out of the Christmas holiday with almost no inventory left on our shelves challenges us to quickly pivot into heart shaped chocolate.
Valentines at Watson's is a time-honored tradition. We write the names on over 15,000 hearts every year in our stores and on our website. We have suckers and truffles, fancy heart assortments and sponge candy clouds. And we've seen it all: proposals, breakups, galentine's wishes, and some things we cannot mention on air (he-he-he).
Decorating those hearts has become a game we play. Line them up and GO! There is an order to how it happens:
- Line up the hearts
- String the stem
- Fluff the flowers
- Level the leaves
- Pack them in the red heart box with the paper doily
With over 64 varieties of decorated hearts available every year, we decided to do the math and compute how many flowers we pipe annually. Got a guess? Send us an email and if you are close, we'll let you know!
In the meantime, the Easter Bunny is giving us a break this year- Easter is April 20 - almost the latest it can be in the liturgical calendar so for now, we are working hard, trying not to break any hearts.
